Honest talks About Sustaining Live Music

TIME: 3:20 PM

LOCATION: Wolf Performance Hall • 251 Dundas Street • London, ON

For-profit music venues are essential to a healthy live music ecosystem, providing stages for artists, employment for industry workers and gathering places for communities. Yet, they regularly operate outside of funding programs as they aren’t often available to for-profit businesses. This panel will take an honest look at the financial realities facing independent venues and the challenges of sustaining live music businesses in a changing economy. Panelists will explore whether government and granting systems adequately recognize the role for-profit venues play in the cultural ecosystem, and discuss potential policy changes, funding models, partnerships and other forms of support that could help keep the doors open to a lifeline of many cities - independent live music venues.
